For this post Jo Chrona’s work embodies the teacher competencies of 9. Demonstrate a deep understanding of overarching disciplinary concepts and 10. Engage critically and creatively with ideas to be a change agent in society, especially with regards to equity and justice. Throughout her post she discusses her experience being part of the group of teachers working on possible revisions to make to the BC k-12 English curriculum and the work towards indigenizing the curriculum. Working towards these changes can be considered being a change agent and also competency 9 which has the concepts that include meaningfully indigenizing education. Through discussing these points Jo has shown being a change agent by trying to educate the other teacher about why it is important to indigenize the curriculum while also working towards the important changes such as the changes to the curriculum.  

Jo was showing being a change agent by trying to educate in a way that changes the status quo with educating about indigenous peoples and indigenizing the curriculum. Jo was demonstrating a deep understanding of overarching disciplinary concepts with working on indigenizing the curriculum and also with helping adapt the curriculum for teachers to be able to have guidance but freedom within the curriculum, which is part of how the BC curriculum is designed. 

As we have now also talked about in class for 330 with Gizelle it is important to just try your best with indigenizing lessons, be sure to put thought into if it is appropriate and to ask for help when needed of course. But it is important to put thought into indigenizing our teaching since who else will if we don’t, It is our job as teachers to help work towards mending some of the harm education has caused with trying to erase the cultures of Indigenous peoples in Canada. 

This falls into the science curriculum following the ideas of FNESC for teaching in general and also with the in general ideas of indigenizing the curriculum and adding indigenous knowledge ( this is an idea in K-9 just in different ways and about different topics).
