Presentation #1– Dannika and Sarah-) Class websites https://dannikaseduction.wixsite.com/think-tank-tickle
using a website to organize your class, have lesson plans, week/year plans, lessons for when students have missed a class.
Making the videos for lessons can take lots of time though, you can reuse it over time and you can password protect the lessons to keep people from going to far ahead.
You can use other videos off the internet as well and just have the website be a homepage for your students.
For this webpage idea would I be able to use something like notion as a substitute?
Having the information on some kind of website it allows students to have the ability to catch themselves up if they have missed class time, it can also be a good review spot for students.
Can have teacher notes and work sheets for the class. Can hold plenty of research and information, it can also be shown to parents.
Can hold videos on how to login to things and the videos for the assignment and what is expected.
Have assignments posted with the overview and steps. Allows you to not need to print a whole bunch of copies, and students cannot lose it.
Allows you to really front load work and also helps parents at home as well.
Some cons for Wix since it is so clunky though you can have multiple contributors. AI is very accessible and easily prompted
Presentation #2 Josie, Kenna, Lauren-) Seesaw
How can seesaw be used in the classroom,
Seesaw gives a platform for students work to be posted and for reflection
Seesaw just needs a login and a device
Students can also just login by scanning a QR code and selecting their name
Great for multimedia (videos, photos, text posts, etc)
Can send notifications individually or to everyone
accessible classroom resource
2 way communication
Create account and invite students and parents
Can set off hours so you can have some downtime
Can allow students to collaborate with each other
Great for getting adults and admin involved (even parents who may be away can still be involved)
Allows adults to see their child’s work and see feedback
Can help for Adult-teacher relationships
One account for a family from k-12 so all the work stays with the child to see their progression
Seesaw has pre-setup lessons/activities that students can do
Teachers can keep track of their favourites to reused at a later date.
You can create your own resources either typed or video/audio for your students with templates or without.
If it is payed for by a school district the data is stored in Canada, free version is just not stored in Canada but the free version is good.
You can add more teachers to your class
Presentation #3 Connor,Eva,Carter-)ClassDojo School
you do need to be a teacher in a school for this program
- As a teacher, you can communicate with adults and the students, you can oversee student groups chat. Lots of games that the teacher can approve and can keep students in that version. Can create lesson plans. can give awards and can do attendance.
- For Parents, can message the teacher, is fully downloadable with the messages, can see points your child have earned and can give child points, different dinner time conversation prompts, has music, is not nearly as fun as the other 2 POVs.
- For student, not nearly as scalable as prodigy so it does only work for a student for so long, digital portfolios, can carry a portfolio for multiple years, can draw and can share (like facebook) can private message the teacher for help, Gamification of the learning, very little tutorial, real time feedback, can get tailored feedback from the teacher.
Teacher thought it was hard to navigate since there is so much available, As a teacher it feels better to use as something for student freetime maybe rather than in class time, for points and awards it- are the points visible to other students as well? can give awards to the whole class together.
Parent POV- prefers seesaw for navigation since the site is very plain and bland for a parent. Wish that parents could play with the student on the game.
Student POV- no prompts and micro transactions which is great. This seems to be more controlled since it is your class only and not everyone, wish their was a tutorial of some sort, needs a mouse or it is much harder, no running at all.
You can add other teachers to your class as well, can see other teachers who are in your school that are using classdojo.
