Presentation #1-) Ryan, Ryley, Carolyn, Jenna-) Mental health and technology
- support student mental health (with technology)
- Stats for youth- mental health concerns are higher in women and indigenous youths, along with LGBTQ+ youth.
- Mental health struggles can affect student performance in learning and their social life.
- There are lots of things in the class you can do to help like meditation, journaling, bringing in the school councilor to talk to the class etc.
- Calm lots of features and is kid friendly, has stories and has reminders, calming music, free version has limited resources. The subscription has lots of features and some school districts pay for it for their staff with their school email.
- Finch (I love this one and use it already) Has subscription but works great without it, lots of customization, can track moods and habits, lots of management techniques for anxiety and also has a journal. You get to raise and customize your bird and send them on adventures- QUESTION: how does the friends feature work?- Can go on adventures together and birds can visit each other, birds can socialize.
- Headspace has lots of meditation activities, teachers have free access, it really relies on wifi and technology, also rather pricey. Also data is stored in the USA and it does collect some of your data.
- GoNoodle– brain breaks, lots of physical activities for students. Brain breaks in general are great to help refocus students. GoNoodle looks to be free mostly and it works great free, has lesson plans, does not advertise to pro version much. Is already in use by SD5. it is one large teacher account, does store your data in the USA.
- Social Robots (MOXIE)- kid filter AI,does respond to students and helps develop student social skills. Features mindfulness activities, and movement breaks, daily missions for social emotional learning. There are 2 versions of MOXIE, one version has 4 individual user profiles and the other has 25 individual user profiles (pricey) there is a companion app, data stored outside of Canada but students are not associated with names but are associated with numbers. MOXIE only works in English as of now.
