How FIPPA may impact your professional practice?

FIPPA would impact my professional practice very minimally. I have never really gravitated to posting on social media so I would not be concerned too much on posting things about my students. I also am not concerned about my own personal posts all too much since aside from some old art accounts I have had years ago I do not post much about myself either. I do feel highly inclined to talk to students about how platforms use and collect their data and being aware of those facts even with the platforms that you do not have much of a choice in its usage such as Microsoft since the school district does use Microsoft.

With following FIPPA I feel that I would be more safe than sorry with having consent forms even if I am avoiding using images of students or any student information at all.

I do feel strange about trying to find ways for students to be able to opt out of having information collected especially with some of the sources schools use that do collect their data especially since wanting students to know about that collection of their information I do not feel it is fair that the platform can collect their data and their isn’t much of a choice to opt out of using these platforms.

I also have weird feelings about how even if a parent signs off on their child being posted it that that child might not agree to it or even understand fully. This thought might come more so from watching all of those family vloggers, and how many of their older children are coming forwards with how they do not want so much of them up online. So still even with parent permission it still feels weird to me to be posting photos or videos of students.

FIPPA is great for students to be sure that students are being protected since students may not fully understand what their privacy is and why it is so important for them. It also can help protect students and have teachers held accountable when teachers break the rules for FIPPA and can face repercussions for not following FIPPA.
